More Classic Sesame Street Coming to DVD

Back in October, Sesame Workshop released the first DVD box set of "classic" Sesame Street material – appropriately titled "Sesame Street Old School – Volume 1". Since October fans have been waiting, and hoping, for the news of a second installment in the "Old School" series.

I have been contacting Sesame Workshop about the issue of more "Sesame Street Old School" DVDs and what to expect (and when). I am happy to say that I have some great news for Sesame Street fans. Recently I received the following response on the issue from a member of Sesame Workshop's administrative team:

"Yes! Indeed there are plans to release a Sesame Street Old School: Volume 2 some time between August and October of this year. Please stay tuned for more details, and thanks for your interest in Sesame Street!"

So there you go! I think that message says it all. "Sesame Street Old School - Volume 2" should be release (if all goes as planned) early this fall (in around five months from now). There are no further details on the set available at this time, but I'll be sure to keep you all updated as soon as any more information is revealed on this upcoming release.

Awesome - I hope this set contains the A++ episode with Stevie Wonder. Stevie's original "1-2-3 Sesame Street" song, the extended jam on "Superstition" and his little bits with Grover were all amazing. Can't wait for Vol. 2. Thanks for the great news!

Glad to hear this. I hope there's a bit more variety in terms of the segments this time - it seemed like almost every episode in Vol. 1 was sponsored by the letter D. I hope they include some of the segments that never made it into the first set, like "Sing", "Lower Case N" and more of the Baker and Jefferson Airplane 1-10 films. Assuming they're covering the next 5 years I imagine the Pinball films will also start to emerge. But will they include the Hooper's Death episode?

I wish that they would release all "Old School" episodes on DVD. I surely would be willing to pay for them!

Honestly, my seven year old daughter and I fight over which Vol. 1 disc to watch (I have a penchant for disc two while she prefers disc three, LOL). This is definitely the best news I've heard all week. I hope there are many more volumes to come.

This is great news!

Re: Mr. Hooper's death - if they keep doing the sets in five-year chunks, Vol. 2 would cover 1974-1979, and Vol. 3 would cover 1979-1984. Mr. Hooper's death was a 1983 episode, so we'll have to wait for Vol. 3.

Speaking of classic Sesame Street, do you know if this is true?

This is great news! I really hope that vol.2 will only feature episodes from 1969. I would love to own more of the first season. And please give us Roosevelt Franklin!!! Roosevelt is the greatest Muppet of all time! Matt Robinson was the man!

Vol 2 is coming out very soon! Rumor has it there was a minor glitch in the printing of the packaging that might make this first run a real collectors item!
