Catch the Muppets in "Studio DC" Again

For all of you who missed last night's big premiere of "Studio DC: Almost Live" on Disney Channel (or for all of you who just want to catch it again), the Muppet-filled television special is set to re-air several times this week. Disney Channel plans on re-airing "Studio DC: Almost Live" on:

  • Monday, August 4, 2008 at 2:05 PM
  • Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 5:00 PM
  • Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 2:30 PM
  • Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 3:00 PM
  • Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 6:30 PM

The half-hour variety show featured Miley Cyrus performing with the Electic Mayhem; the Muppets joining the cast of "The Suite Life" for an original comedy sketch; Kermit and Ashley Tisdale performing "Bop to the Top"; Miss Piggy's failing attempts to join the Jonas Brothers; and much more.

A second "Studio DC" special starring the Muppets is tentitivly slated to air on the Disney Channel in October 2008. The follow-up special is said to include such Disney Channel stars as Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and the Cheetah Girls.

So be sure to set the VCR and mark your calendars so you don’t miss "Studio DC: Almost Live!" (again). And I will be sure to keep you updated on the future of "Studio DC" and the Muppets on Disney Channel.

I actually watched Studio DC and it was absolutely horrible. The Muppets were just a shadow of them former selves. 3rd bananas at best, mainly there just to add a funny moment, which was hollow at best.

NO! YOU'RE SO WRONG!

SDCAL was pretty good for what it was and the Muppets and D.C. stars were given equal billing/screentime.

And the Muppets were actually very much in-character.

Don't go slamming things so blindly without thinking. It's just as wrong as making fun of kids, which is a big reason why can't stand so many fans!

There is a reason why this special was tucked away on the Disney Channel. It is a way of target marketing to a younger audience while not disturbing older viewers who prefer more substance with their Muppets. I won't be watching it twice (and that is rare for me) but it serves its purpose in guiding younger viewers to the better, more enduring entertainment of the Muppets that has lasted over 50 years! This was just a thinly disguised promo.

Kingcrab, I have to say, you're right! I guess I simply wasn't thinking when I watched SDCAL the first two times. I decided to take your advice and not slam the special so blindly, as I did the first two times watching it. I watched it a third time, really focusing on how wrong I might have been in my initial knee-jerk reaction that came after those first two viewings. Once I decided not to make fun of kids, I discovered that it really is a great piece of television!

Thank you so much, no I'm serious; it simply took your persistence in continually telling people that they're wrong for not liking SDCAL for me to overcome my initial gut reaction that I wasn't entertained at all. I'm much happier not being wrong now, and not slamming things so blindly and making fun of kids with agents.

You can't blame the first post for having an opinion like that. They possibly still recall the Muppets being on top. But face it years had past since that last happened. Looking at the show again myself. I am of the opinion if your above a certain age, you will not like it no matter what anyone says. The first poster my guess more that likely never heard of any of the acts. I am almost at the certain age myself and I barely knew how most of the acts were. You might called Studio DC, a Muppet Show for a new generation.

The special only demonstrated how dated and lame the Muppets seem nowadays. When I first saw them, I believed in them as actual living creatures (of course I was like, 8 then). But when I saw them on that special, I was painfully aware that I was watching talking dolls and green felt stretched over a man's hand. They don't look "real" anymore. And that is not the fault of the special. The Muppets are dead. Not even Disney can revive them.
