Weinstein Company Signs on for Fraggle Film

According to Variety, The Weinstein Company is planning to bring Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock to the big screen. The Henson Company has been actively working to bring the Fraggles back in an all-new feature film for several years. The film, based on the original story treatment developed by Ahmet Zappa, will be helmed by writer/director Cory Edwards, who is currently writing the screenplay for the Fraggle film. Producers on the project include Brian Henson, Jason Lust, Lisa Henson, Ahmet Zappa, and Brian Inerfeld.

The film, produced by the Jim Henson Company and distributed by the Weinstein Company, will take the Fraggles - Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober and Red - outside of their home in Fraggle Rock and into the human world.

Previous statments from the Henson company have projected a 2009 release for the film; and I'll be sure to keep you updated with more Fraggle news as it surfaces.

Yes! This is great! I think we have the new Segal Muppet film to thank for this. :)

Might be the best fit. Disney might have tinkered too much. Weinstein offers a unique freedom. Not certain about the Hoodwinked director. With the Henson Company and the original surviving Fraggle team in place I can't see this going wrong.

I cant wait to see it! Hoodwinked, (the true story of Red Riding Hood)was great fun to watch. With Cory Edwards, the Henson team, Disney...how can they go wrong? I am sure my children will get the same joy from this movie, as I did from the show!

How do you figure the "original team" being in place. Jerry Juhl is "unavailable". The music in the series was created by Balsam and Lee. Now you've got the "untalented" Ahmet Zappa (fortunately others in his family have inherited the Zappa talent) involved in the music. Any mention of Jerry Nelson?
Fraggles have been thrown into traffic. Just look at who was selected to be the director. The DVD sets are the best thing to come along for Fraggle Rock fans. I'm appreciative of the stellar effort to produce and release the original series and the extras that have been included.
