Fun and Furry Muppet Show Package

Last month I shared some possible cover for the upcoming "Muppet Show - Season 1" DVD box set. Today Disney confirmed that the box will be the simple Kermit inspired art work that surfaced earlier. However the simple green box with a classy and nostalgic feel will really stand out on store shelves due to another fun packaging feature. “The Muppet Show Season 1” will come in a special collectible packaging with a fun, furry touch. That’s right, the box will not be made of plan cardboard like most DVD box sets, but will feel just like the Muppets themselves. Information on the design for the final disc art or interior packaging is not available yet, but at least now you know what to look for (and feel for) in stores on August 9th.

Glad to see they chose to stick with this packaging. The fuzziness will appeal to children, but the simple dignity of the art will remind adults of their love for the show.

I still don't like the box art, and I still want an answer to the "Will they have the original openings and closings?" question.

any word yet on which opening credits they'll use?

The Disney press release keeps talking about going back to the original masters and restoring and remastering them. Given this, I think cutting the first season openings would take a LOT more effort than leaving them in. I may be optimistic here, but to me 'original masters' means 'with openings'.

Cool! My birthday is August 6th, so this will be a great present for myself, and some other Muppety friends of mine. I cannot wait to see the UK skits. I've never seen them before! :D

does anyone out there realize that the muppet show isn't a kids show? I mean at least it wasn't supposed to be. It was originally made for more mature audiences.

Uh yeah...most Muppet fans know full well that Jim Henson really wanted to do the Muppet Show since with the huge success of Sesame Street, the Muppets were becoming known as childrens entertainment which was never the intent. Thats why were all so pleased that the dvd box set is getting the proper features it deserves and that Disney didnt take the *its a kid show so we dont have to do anything really special* treatment with the dvds. It looks like (though were still awaiting final confirmation) that The Muppet Show: Sex & Violence will be included (again, Jim chose that title specically because he wanted to cater towards adults) and the infamous Muppet Show pitch tape with Kermit asking *What the hell was that?*
