BOOM! Studios' June Muppet Comic Book Offerings

Last week, BOOM! Studios launched their new series of Muppet comic books. The debut mini-series, a four-part Muppet Show comic, is being written and drawn by Roger Langridge. The first issue, "The Muppet Show Comic Book #1", was released last week was an instant top seller. Retailers are completely selling out of their copies and a second printing is already planned for April. "The Muppet Show Comic Book #2" will be released on April 29th and "The Muppet Show Comic Book #3" will be released on May 27th.

The fourth installment of "The Muppet Show Comic Book" will follow the monthly release schedule, with "The Muppet Show Comic Book #4" planned to hit stores on June 24, 2009. In the fourth issue the spotlight is cast on Miss Piggy and asks the age old question "is the stage big enough for this such a massive ego?"

June will also bring the third installment of BOOM! Studios' second Muppet series, "Muppet Robin Hood". This four-part comic mini-series gives an irreverent retelling of the classic tale of "Robin Hood" with the Muppets. The series is being written by Tim Beedle, with artwork by Armand Villavert Jr. In the comic, Robin Hood (Kermit the Frog) joins up with the Merry Men to take on the stuffy Sheriff of Muppetham (Sam the Eagle) and the wicked Gonzo of Gisbourne (The Great Gonzo). In "Muppet Robin Hood #3", Robin enters an archery contest to win the love of Maid Marian (Miss Piggy). "Muppet Robin Hood #1" will be released on April 29th and "Muppet Robin Hood #2" will follow on May 27th. The third installment, "Muppet Robin Hood #3", will be released on June 24, 2009 with the final issue planned for release in July.

So mark your calendars because "The Muppet Show #4" and "Muppets Robin Hood #3" will both be released on Jun 24, 2009. I will be sure to keep you updated with more information on the upcoming Muppet comic book seriess as more information become available.

My worst fears have been realized. Miss Piggy looks just awful on the covers of her two books. Not funny. Not "re-interpreted in a new way" or anything like that. AWFUL. Fat and ugly. See, this is why I sometimes wish the Muppets would stop trying for a "comeback" and just remain a fond memory. It just sucks seeing people keep screwing them up.

The compositions are attractive, but the pig has certainly looked better. However, nobody has to look at the comics if they don't want to. Most fans have responded favorably to the comics so this is for them. They’re a hit even if not all the character interpretations are. The writing is particularly good. If you haven't picked up the comic yet then you are merely judging a book by its cover.

Don't judge a book by its cover...literally.

These comics are awesome! I can't wait for more.

These have been held up in Australia do to Licensing reasons.

Both major comic stores in CBD Melbourne were told this by suppliers.

The first issue was great, I look forward to more of this series.
My only gripe is that each issue should be a tad longer.

Of course I'm judging the book by its cover. Is it likely that Miss Piggy and pals will look better INSIDE the book? And I beg to differ that the comics are a hit. Really? As I understand it, comic shops bought out Boom Studio's small print run. What about actual sales to consumers? When I went to the comic shop in my area and asked about the book, I was told that I could order it but that the shop wasn't carrying it on the shelves because word was that sales weren't good. So take that as you will.

As it is I won't be ordering it anyway - not with horrible-looking art like that.

i never worry about cover art cause 9 times outta 10 it has nothing to do with whats inside...

so is it only a 4 issue run? sfter the 4th issue there will be no more "Muppet Show Comic" ? and it will just move to Muppet Robin Hood? that sux :(

Yah, Miss Piggy seems to be off model. But, I think the cover art has a nice feel to them. And, some of the expressions of the others are great!
