Whatnot Workshop Opens Online

As originally planned, FAO Schwarz's Muppet Whatnot Workshop launched earlier today. Now consumers can create and customize their very own Muppet Whatnot. These premium and customizable puppets are retailing for just around $90 each (plus shipping and handling). Customers can create and customize their very own Whatnot puppet by picking a puppet body and accessorizing it with a variety of Muppet features and accessories.

The Muppet Whatnots are hand and rod puppets, just like the real Muppets. They're 16" tall and come in their own clear, drawstring backpack so your Muppet Whatnot can go with you wherever you go. You can also order the premium Muppet Whatnot Gift Kit, which allows the lucky recipient to embark on the unique, creative adventure of designing their very own performing puppet (a great holiday gift for any Muppet fan).

Begining on November 13th, visitors of FAO Schwarz's flagship store in New York will be able to participate in an exclusive in-store workshop experience to build their very own Whatnot Muppet. So check out the all-new Muppet Whatnot Workshop online at FAO.com. I will be sure to keep you updated on this exciting new boutique as soon as more details are announced.

What exactly comes in the Gift Kit? Is it just paper materials or an actual puppet you can build again and again yourself? I want to know every specific about the gift kit as it appears to be very vaguely worded. I don't know where best to invest my dollar. I am getting some sort of puppet from them. I just need to know my options.

The gift kit is just paper materials. It comes with vinyl clings, like ColorForms, so the person can play around with how they want their Whatnot to look. But ultimately, it's just a gift card - as they end up ordering and customizing the puppet online and then putting in a gift code so they're not charged.

Thanks. So that's $40 extra dollars for shipping, colorforms a book and the "gift kit" title that isn't covered by individual online puppet order. It's just markup and packaging that some people might like. I'll stick to the $90 online method and put the extra cash to a second fuzzy fellow down the line.

I'm a little disappointed in the variety of bodies and accessories. I was hoping that I'd really have to think this through, but if the in-store selection is anything like the online selection, it's going to be a much faster process for me than I expected. Ah well. It still makes me giddy to think of having my own Muppet for just $90. I can't wait to surprise my wife with a trip to FAO!

Does anyone know when these will be available again? They are now out of stock.
