Doozers Get "Fraggle Rock" Spin-Off

It was announced today that The Jim Henson Company and DECODE Entertainment are teaming up to produce a brand-new animated series based on the industrious little characters from "Fraggle Rock" known as Doozers. The company will produce 26 half-hour episodes of a new series entitled "The Doozers".

The series, will focus on a trio of new apprentice Doozers - named Baxter, Puzzlebea and Daze, who learn through teamwork and cooperation. The series' curriculum is built around green technology and eco consciousness. Targeted at 4- to 7-year-olds, "The Doozers" is currently in the advanced stages of development and is planned for broadcast in fall 2010. Henson will handle all consumer products, licensing, and merchandising for the property.

Halle Stanford, the executive VP of children's entertainment for The Jim Henson Company, commented on the series stating: "Who could forget the industrious little Doozers who wore hard hats as they cheerfully labored alongside the Fraggles, building scaffolds composed of 'Doozer sticks' made of 'radish dust'? Now, the Doozers' are back to inspire kids to make the world a better place by making smart, ecofriendly choices, and by inventing tools, gadgets, buildings, structures, and other technology that supports the environment's ecology."

I will be sure to keep you updated as more information on this exciting new series becomes available.

It'll never be quite as impressive in CGI but this sounds like a natural and fab idea for a spin off!

I hope they tweak the design a bit, but I'm on board.

It pains me to say this, but I don't think I'm on board. Sorry, I love Fraggle Rock too much for it to be relegated to YET ANOTHER 3D animation science series. I'd rather keep my kids in front of the real Fraggle Rock.

This sounds like a natural fit for the characters, a great idea for a spin-off, and a suitable addition to the Henson library. I can't wait for more information!

The Fraggles are getting a movie, the Doozers are getting a TV show...I hope the Gorgs secure a book deal or something. What a great time to be a Fraggle Rock fan.

I like the idea; I just don't like the fact that the Doozers will be computer generated. It's just not the same.

It's not the same, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I'm all for reintroducing past Jim Henson concepts to a new medium that tries to accomplish the SAME educational and entertaining goals that were intended for the originals.

It's yet another way the legacy lives on.
