More Muppet Comics Come in May

As previously reported, BOOM! Studios is preparing to launch a brand-new series of comic books this spring staring the Muppets. The debut mini-series, a four-part Muppet Show comic book series, is being written and drawn by Roger Langridge and will launch next month with the release of "The Muppet Show #1" on March 25, followed by "The Muppet Show #2" on April 29.

"The Muppet Show #3", the third installment in the series, has now been announced for a May 27, 2009 release - continuing the monthly spacing between issues. The story in the third issue will focus on exploits of the Great Gonzo as his dangerous routines come under scrutiny from the theater's insurance agent.

May will also bring the second installment of BOOM! Studios' second Muppet series, "Muppet Robin Hood". This four-part comic mini-series gives an irreverent retelling of the classic tale of "Robin Hood" with the Muppets. The series is being written by Tim Beedle, with artwork by Armand Villavert Jr. In the comic, Robin Hood (Kermit the Frog) joins up with the Merry Men to take on the stuffy Sheriff of Muppetham (Sam the Eagle) and the wicked Gonzo of Gisbourne (The Great Gonzo). "Muppet Robin Hood #1" will be released on April 29 and "Muppet Robin Hood #2" will follow on May 27, 2009.

So mark your calendars because "The Muppet Show #3" and "Muppets Robin Hood #2" will both be released on May 27, 2009. I will be sure to keep you updated with more information on the upcoming Muppet comic book seriess as more information become available.

I'm glad to be the first to say that the Gonzo cover made me smile this morning.

Egad! The Gonzo looks like Marty Feldman (and not in a good way). The Piggy looks...like crap. Did the "artist" even look at pictures of the puppets? Based on the art (and the fact that I'm over the age of 3) I wouldn't give a bent penny for these books.

Too bad that certain artists don't realize that certain Muppets have certain amounts of fingers and toes. Maybe they're trying to go with a little more of... what... historic accuracy? I'm eyeballin' you, Robin Hood!

Also, when will they get artists, that actually draw these characters the way they deserve to be drawn: good?!

I'm irritated by the fingers and toes inaccuracies too. I am, however, enjoying many of these interpretations. So far we have three artists work in some form on these: Langridge, Villavert Jr and Alvarez (for the limited Chuck Jones-ish looking cover).

I don't fully agree with Langridge's Gonzo. I would go a different way with him if it were my piece, but he is interesting and dynamic enough for me to accept this current design thus far. It will probably evolve even more. I am officially very excited!!!

While the fingers/toes thing is strange, I'm impressed Langridge took the time to put Uncle Deadly and Mildred in the audience.... NICE TOUCH!

These continue to excite me! I'm really digging the Muppet Robin Hood. Can't wait!

As for the art, I think most of the Muppets' expression comes from the performers. Therefore, its difficult for a still drawing of a Muppet to have much expression. So I'm not going to hate on the artistic liberties taken to give the characters comic expressions and adapt them to the artists' styles.

Besides, its too awesome to actually have someone taking the Muppets seriously enough and making a series of comics about them to gripe about little things. This is too much fun.

Cant wait.

Nathan,
I agree 100%
These comics look like allot of fun, I hope that what's inside each issue holds as much insane fun as the covers do! :)

They should do the show again and quit wasting their time with comic books!
