"Follow That Bird" Anniversary Edition DVD

"Sesame Street presents Follow That Bird", the first Sesame Street movie, celebrates its 25th anniversary next year. In celebration of the film's anniversary, Warner Home video is planning to re-release "Follow That Bird" in a special remastered anniversary DVD. The new single-disc release is slated to hit stores on March 24, 2009.

"Follow that Bird" stars the beloved cast of Sesame Street in their first big screen adventure. A meddling social worker sends poor Big Bird off to Ocean View, Illinios, for the comforts of family life with his "own kind," the Dodos. But Big Bird is a disaster as a Dodo and, lonely and homesick, he soon sets off on foot for Sesame Street. Can his old friends find him before he runs "afowl" of trouble en route? The film features the cast and Muppets of Sesame Street, memorable heart-warming songs, plus a hearty helping of celebrity cameos - inlcuding Chevy Chase, Sandra Bernhard, John Candy, Waylon Jennings and many more.

The anniversary DVD will feature the original, uncut film in a newly restored and remastered widescreen presentation. This new DVD edtion will also feature an exclusive all-new featurette, a "jump to a song" Sing-Along feature, and much more. So be sure to pre-order your copy of this exciting new release - and be on the look out for "Sesame Street presents Follow this Bird: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" DVD in March, 2009.

Admittably, it's been years and years since I saw this movie, but I certainly don't remember Elmo being around for it. If my memory is right, does Elmo on the cover art suggest bait-and-switch marketing for today's tots or perhaps this will be a Special Edition with Elmo CG-added to scenes that previously didn't include him?

In all seriousness, this is great. They really aimed high with this release and it deserves to sit alongside any of the original Muppet films.

Delighted that a widescreen version is finally available to buy on DVD. It's recently been added to itunes UK as a widescreen download, but i'm definitely waiting for this now...

The Elmo puppet did appear in the movie, during home coming sequence at the of the film. He's sticking his head out of a window, similar to a bunch of (at that point) lesser Muppets.

I'm in! They got me on Widescreen and Uncut. Stick it in a brown wrapper for all I care. The content of the disc is enough for me.

It's about time that this lost classic got a special edition. The original DVD is as bare bones as you can come by.

A "deleted" scene that I dream of seeing is when Big Bird is walking back to Sesame Street he is passed by a car with a frog and a bear inside it.

Will Carroll Spinney provide a commentary?

Actually, we have been watching it forever and ly little girls loves it and to answer the first person's post Elmo is in it...he is shown in a window just after Big Bird returns to Sesame Street, but he does not talk.

I remeber watcing this with my little sister and she is 21..I love this show so much....it has everything that reminds of Henson that I thought was lost when he died.

I already own the old one but will buy this for sure even if I do like the old Box art a bit more.
Extra stuff is always a good plus for me :)

I can't help but be a little sad with any release that doesn't come out on Blu-Ray as well, but this release will definitely be one of the highlights of my collection.
It was the fist movie I ever saw in theaters, and was my favorite movie growing up next to Mary Poppins.
I've been waiting for a decent release for a while now...

One note - Follow That Bird was from 1985, not 1984, so even The Count von Count would know that ISN'T 25 years, but 24.

Somebody screwed up

It may have been theatrically released in 1985, but it was produced in 1984.
