Disney Enlists Segel and Stoller to Bring Muppets to Big Screen

Variety is reporting that Disney has just signed a deal with Jason Segel and Nick Stoller to help create the next Muppet movie. According to reports, Segel and Stoller will write the script while Stoller will direct the proposed Muppet film. This project is very much in its infancy and is still a long way off, but I will be sure to keep you up to date as soon as more information on this project becomes available.

Can it be finally asked if this is the "top secret Muppet project" that's been whispered about forever?

Very new talent they have signed. I'm not sure how I feel about that but I have faith in the Muppets and Disney since the new XD launch of muppets.com!

Thank you so very much for this report. I know this will take over a year (probably two) to make it out to the cineplex, but this has made my night.

I don't know if that is the same exact big project that they've whispered about, but it is a big project - and probally related.

You are right that it will probally take a year or two until we see it (they have to write it, you know) - but I have been told by several people at Disney that the hope is to get the Muppet back to the big screen before the end of the decade (2010).

From what I understand, the Jim Henson Company produced puppets for Segel and Stoller's film Forgetting Sarah Marshall. They must have hit it off.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is supposed to be excellent by the way.

They really should make the script they bought of Brian Lynch.
