DVD Collection of Henson's Early Works is in the Works

At this weekend's "Muppets, Music and Magic" event in New York, Henson writer and historian Craig Shemin announced that there is work going towards producing a DVD box set of Jim Henson's early TV work.

The DVD collection will be full of Henson's early experimental shorts, crazy commercials, television appearances, other rarities from the Henson vault and other retrospective goodies for Henson fans and historians to enjoy.

A DVD set of Henson's early shorts has been in the works for a while now (Craig started leading the project to bring Henson’s short films and commercials to a wider home audience after wrapping up his work on producing the bonus features for the 2005 "Special Edition" release of "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas"). The team is working to compile the collection and secure all the legal clearances needed.

There have been estimates expecting the product to roll out sometime in the next year or so; and I will be sure to keep you posted with more details on this very exciting DVD box set and it's release and contentd as soon as I get the information.

It's funny to see this hear, as I was the one in the audience of the screening of Commercials & Experiments that asked the question that lead to this info coming out. I'm quite proud to see I played a part in getting the news up here.

Does that mean we're going to get some "Sam and Friends?" I want that stuff! I'm 29 and have only seen glimpses of it. Can someone let us know?

Now THIS is a Muppets release worth owning!!!! Not Muppet Christmas Carol, not A Very,Very Muppet Christmas, not Kermit's Swamp Years, but something worthy of Jim Henson's legacy.

This release is right up there with The Muppets Magic, Sesame Street Old School, The Muppet Movie and The Muppet Show.

Now, if they would just release The Frog Prince, Hey Cinderella, The Great Santa Clause Switch and The Muppet Musicians of Breman on DVD, that would be fantastic!!!

Hi, Anonymous,
Now that Disney owns the Muppets you can bet that there won't be much if any Sam and Friends. Still, Diz and JHC have been keeping good company with each other so I hope The Muppet Newsflash will report that S&F will be on the DVD,or have its own set out soon! Good news!
